Maryland Happies

When someone organizes and hosts a gathering, there's no rule that says they have to give out welcome bags full of happies, but it always happens.  I cannot speak for anyone else, but I LOVE getting all the goodies.

Those goodies can range from maps and local tourist brochures, pencils and little notepads, special and unusual local foods . . . nothing fancy, just special.  Chef Bill and Chef Elaine, organizers of our Maryland DOG had welcome bags waiting on us.  Plus, Bill had scored big 5-pound boxes of cornmeal mix - perfect for Chefs like Momma Sharon!

That cornmeal mix was used for several CDO dishes during our gathering and I heard all the oohs and aahs and yums every time one of those was tasted.  Chef D'Nise made hush puppies and Chef Liz made skillet cornbread!

One of the happies in Mom's welcome bag was a set of 6 Ball rings.  That might seem like an unusual item to be excited about, but the Chefs put them in the bottom of their Dutch ovens to raise pie pans and such up a little bit so the food doesn't burn.

My Camper Mom got really excited when she saw two new patches to go on her cooking apron.  The MD state patch and the CDO patch came from Bill and Elaine.  The bigger patches are ones that she picked up while out playing tourist.

Happies are unexpected gifts from friends  - always fun, always bringing a smile, and always appreciated!

Have a wonderful holiday today and until I see you again soon with another Story, always remember . . .

  1. Glad you liked the goodies. Look at the sign in the first picture. Eight years ago, The county executive in our County was criticized for putting those signs up around the county. It was not allowed because saying open for business is like an advertisement. You can see though that the signs were never removed.
